litter picking

the SPOGOMI story

SPOGOMI was invented in Japan in 2008 and its name a combination of Sport and Gomihiroi (Japanese for “picking up trash”). Teams compete for points based on the amount and type of garbage collected within the playing area. It has since spread all over the world and become a unique competitive activity – good for people and good for the planet.

SPOGOMI’s charm lies in its inclusive nature – anyone can win through teamwork, strategy, and effort, regardless of age or gender, all while helping clean the environment.

In 2023 the UK took part in the first ever SPOGOMI world cup selection. The winning team travelled to Japan to compete against teams from around the world. The UK team collected the most rubbish and ended up bringing home the title of WORLD CHAMPIONS!
